Fear is a potent bitch
How to not let fear rule your life & leverage it instead.
Fear is a potent bitch.
With the right amount of fear, it gets you off your ass to take action.
With excessive fear, it paralyzes you and consumes you.
As I have iterated in previous letters, too much or too little of something will destroy you.
Think about how many times fear stopped us from:
Reaching out to someone
Introducing yourself to someone at an event
Asking someone for advice
Moving to a different city for a different opportunity
Saying yes to something that scares the shit out of you but you know will be good for you
The Wisdom of Fear & Regret
I recently went to a university alumni event with a friend and I spotted an instagram creator that I follow at the event.
I love his content because it never ceases to put a smile on my face.
I told my friend, “I think that’s him.”
My friend said, “Go up to him and say hi.”
I said “Nah, I’m scared”.
He said “What’s the worst that can happen? You will regret this later if you don’t at least try”.
I hated how right he was. So I finished my glass of mimosa and I walked up to him and introduced myself.
Me: “Sorry to interrupt, but are you X?”
X: “Oh yes, hello. I’m surprised you recognized me.”
Me: “I’m Eunice and I follow you on instagram and I love your work. Thank you for doing what you do”
Then we proceeded and had a 15-20 minute conversation along with my friend.
The Learning Lesson Here
This simple interaction taught me that, you shouldn’t be afraid of taking initiative to reach out to people.
Regardless of in person or online.
Regardless of whether its someone you know or a stranger.
Because you never know what can come from it.
The worst that could have happened to me in that interaction is he told me to fuck off or I mistaken him for someone else.
But the best is I had a humors conversation with this creator about his content, about being a USYD alumini, cost of living in Australia.
What I gained was bravery (credits to my friend who called me out that night, thank you). It feels like my level of courage increases every time I make steps like this. This is how I build myself up.
How Fear Hurts Us
It kills me that most of us let fear hold us back from taking MORE initiative.
It hurts me that most of us let our inner narrative (fuck you inner critic) rule reality and talk ourselves out of stepping out of our comfort zone.
It makes me sad that we fill our minds with hurtful, detrimental, critical thoughts and perceptions and judgements of ourselves but we would never treat anyone else the same way.
So why do that to yourself?
Identify the root of where the criticism comes from.
Identify why and how it’s stopped you from LIVING.
Identify what you want to do better moving forward.

Honestly. Stop fixating on the negatives.
Balance it out with curiosity and wonder.
What CAN happen if I reached out to a stranger and introduced myself?
What CAN happen if I reached out to an old friend who I havent spoken to in a long time and reconnect?
What CAN happen if I stop letting fear rule my life?
What CAN happen if I stop filling my mind with negative, catastrophizing thoughts and generalizations about my reality from the past?

For fuck’s sake. Please. Live. Be brave. Be courageous.
Do what you’ve always wanted to do.
Stop talking yourself out of anything.
Be bold. For yourself. For the future and past you.
You only get one life.
Remember.
“Nothing worth having comes easy” - Theodore Roosevelt
Stop expecting things to be quick and easy.
In a world of competing for attention, it has formed our perception and expectation that things should be instantaneous and easy.
But that’s not how life works.
Step out of the attention economy.
Be selective with what you give your attention to.
Because it has a ten-fold effect on your mind, your wellbeing and your life.
“Most of your problems stem from poor mental habits that you are unaware of” - Dan Koe
A great quote by a creator that I aspire to be.
Be conscious, intentional and reflective.
Let’s work together to bring the subconscious conscious so you can break free of your internal prison.
